PRESENTATION OF THE IRDES

IRDES's primary mission is to provide high quality research and information for those who are interested in the future of health care systems. IRDES's multidisciplinary team monitors and analyses trends in the behaviour of consumers and health care professionals from a medical, economic, geographic and sociological perspective. In addition, IRDES provides access to health information for general public through its documentation center.

IRDES develops and conducts periodic and targeted surveys on populations, health care professionals, and institutions, to collect data on medical care production and consumption. Partnership agreements also enable it to make use of surveys conducted by other organisations (National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies, sickness funds, IMS France...).

IRDES conducts studies and research based primarily on data from its surveys or those placed at its disposal, as well as on information collected from scientific literature, and from foreign systems. These activities cover a variety of issues regarding the supply and demand of care from a macro and micro-economic standpoint: trend analysis of morbidity and access to health care, studies of physicians' prescription practices, determinants of health care utilisation and health outcomes, evaluation of alternatives to hospitalisation...

Research program 2009-2011

IRDES disseminates health information and research findings to a wide public via its information centre and Eco-Santé Software. The Eco-Santé database consolidates statistical series regarding health status, health care provision and use, and health insurance. Updated yearly, the software provides an easy means of pooling and presenting data on France and at the regional level. Within the information centre, a large range of publications on health economics as well as related disciplines such as demography, epidemiology, medicine, and social legislation are available to the general public.

Researchers at IRDES have privileged relationships with numerous French partners in the scientific, medical and university fields, such as the Ministry of Health, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies, the sickness funds, IMS France.... They also collaborate with several university centres and public health authorities in Europe and north America.
